If You Could See Your Life 10 Years From Now, Would You Look?

What if you could see exactly where your life would be 10 years from today?

Would you look?

Would you want to know how successful you become, who you marry, what your career looks like, or whether the dreams you have today actually come true?

These are some of the questions explored in an episode of the Revive Podcast, hosted by Fiyin John-Taiwo, with Isaac Malto, a 300-level Biomedical Engineering student at Bells University of Technology and CEO of fragrance business Tentry Cora.

A Glimpse Into the Future

For Isaac, seeing the future isn't something she would want to experience completely.

She would rather have a brief sneak peek.

Why?

Because knowing everything that is going to happen could take away some of the excitement of living. The uncertainty of life, after all, is part of what makes the journey meaningful.

If given the opportunity, she would want to know about some of the major things that matter to her: her achievements, her family, and whether she eventually makes use of the Biomedical Engineering degree she is currently pursuing.

It is an interesting perspective.

Sometimes, we spend so much time trying to predict the future that we forget to actually live in the present.

Is Success Worth It Without Happiness?

One of the most powerful ideas from the conversation is the difference between success and happiness.

Society often defines success through money, career achievements, status, businesses, and influence.

But what happens when you achieve all of those things and still aren't happy?

Isaac describes that possibility as terrifying.

For her, failing isn't necessarily the worst outcome. She would rather experience failure, pick herself back up, learn from it, and continue growing than become successful while being miserable.

That raises an important question:

What is the point of achieving your dream if you lose yourself along the way?

Success can provide comfort and opportunities, but it doesn't automatically provide peace.

Can You Change Your Destiny?

Another interesting part of the conversation is the question of whether knowing an unfavorable future would change anything.

Isaac believes that if she discovered something about her future that she could control, she would take action to change it.

That doesn't necessarily mean trying to control everything.

Instead, it means recognizing the difference between the things we can change and the things we simply have to accept.

At the same time, she maintains the belief that things happen for a reason.

That balance—taking responsibility for your choices while accepting that you cannot control everything—is an important part of navigating life.

The Bigger Dream

For Isaac, the future isn't simply about having a successful career.

Her ambitions go beyond academics and Biomedical Engineering.

She wants to build businesses, impact people's lives, and ultimately achieve something that is sometimes overlooked when people talk about success: long-term emotional peace and happiness.

That is perhaps the most important takeaway from the conversation.

A meaningful future isn't necessarily one where everything goes perfectly.

It could simply be one where you are proud of the person you've become.

Maybe We Don't Need to See the Future

The idea of seeing your life 10 years from now sounds exciting.

But maybe not knowing is part of the gift.

If we knew every achievement, every failure, every relationship, and every challenge waiting for us, would we still make the same choices?

Maybe the uncertainty is what gives our decisions meaning.

The future isn't a finished story waiting for us to discover it. Every decision we make today contributes to the person we eventually become.

And perhaps instead of asking:

"What will my life look like 10 years from now?"

We should sometimes ask:

"What am I doing today to make the life I want possible?"

Because while we cannot see the future, we can influence the direction we're heading.

And sometimes, that's enough.
